Sticking to a sleeping schedule may mean skipping the late-night shows or not hitting the snooze button in the morning. But to live your best healthy and active life, sleep needs to be your number one priority.
Move
It may seem self-explanatory, but one of the main components of being healthy and active is, well, staying active.
Again, we don’t mean you need to be a treadmill slave.
The vast majority of Americans have desk jobs. This kind of sedentary lifestyle holds us back from being the healthiest version of ourselves. But not anymore! To maximize your time, try taking a few minutes a day to do some exercises from your desk.
What about your lunch break? Do you usually spend it sitting at your desk or a local deli? Why not spend just 20 minutes briskly walking outside if weather permits, or even around your workplace?
Need more motivation?
Give an activity tracker a whirl, such as the Fitbit. Try to beat your daily step count or compete against co-workers or friends. A little friendly competition never hurt anyone, especially if it gets you moving!
Eat Healthy
Eating a well-balanced diet will improve your health but so will eating mindfully. Being aware and present while you’re eating will allow you to enjoy your food.
More importantly, being mindful when you eat, can help you learn to take cues from your body about when you’re full.
Hydrate Often
Drinking enough water (half your body weight in ounces) is an excellent way to improve your health. When you consume the proper amount of water, your body flushes out toxins and clean itself out. What’s better than that?
Drinking water is easy to do, and with the countless benefits it offers, you can’t afford to skip this step.
Relax and Cut Out the Stress
Reducing your stress levels is not only a great heart-healthy move. Cutting out stress is beneficial to your sleep patterns and can even lead to a better physical appearance as well.
Another great stress buster aside from physical exercise is meditation. Meditation is an excellent way to relax and center yourself.
By incorporating these five simple acts into your daily life, you can become more healthy and active with minimal effort. What do you have to lose?
